If Oscar wanted to sell his story, could he, and if he could, why doesn’t he, and if he has, how has he?

On Friday, June 24, British broadcaster, ITV, will be airing an interview with Oscar Pistorius.  According to Oscar’s uncle Arnold, the Pistorius family will not be receiving payment for the interview despite ‘crippling’ legal fees.  Arnold went on to say they’ve mostly declined all paid-for interview offers.

If Oscar wanted to sell his story, could he, and if he could, why doesn’t he, and if he has, how has he?

  1. A convicted criminal should not be permitted financial gain from selling his story to media houses. Especially when he has yet to be sentenced.

    • I agree! Here in the States we have the Son of Sam laws which prevent criminals from profiting from their crimes. I know other countries like Canada and Australia have similar restrictions… I’m not aware of any law in South Africa that prevents it… Nick?

  2. We live in a weird society. Someone commits a crime, and then money is be made buying/selling the story. You know even if the criminal doesn’t sell it directly, is there anything preventing his family from doing so?

  3. I don’t want to hear any of his lies. It would just make angry. Criminals shouldn’t be able to profit from their crimes but in this case it’s probably more the case that he wants to clear his name, salvage his reputation: Go back to his career, sponsors but I don’t see that happening. He is going to end up a parriah like OJ.
